IN A bid to attract more tourists to the local shops in Sigatoka Town, the Sigatoka Town Council has embarked on developing an entertainment area and a park for locals. Situated alongside the Sigatoka River, the recreational park will also provide a stage for local villagers to perform for tourists. Sigatoka Town Council chief executive officer Tulsi Ram said the park will also be a rest area for villagers travelling from the highlands of Navosa.
“This project is very important for everyone in the Sigatoka district because over the years we have seen a lot of people coming in from the highlands and they hardly have a place to rest,” he said.
“They don’t have a place to go and enjoy a meal before they have to make the long trip back to their homes in the afternoon”
“So what we have decided to do is to develop this area into a full recreational area with facilities such as benches and tables and even small shelters around the park.”
He said the park will also host entertainment groups and showcases for tourists.
