VODAFONE Fiji Bati was defeated 26-14 by Papua New Guinea in the Pacific Test match at Campbelltown Stadium this evening.

Fiji fielded nine players that featured against Australia in the Rugby League World Cup last year but failed to spark or stop the fast and furious PNG Kumuls who scored all their points in the first half.

PNG ran in four tries, two from debutant Junior Rau.

Tyrone Phillips scored for Fiji which could not be converted by Henry Raiwalui. PNG led 26-4 at the breather.

Fiji started the second half better with two tries from Suliasi Vunivalu and Pio Seci which unfortunately were ruled out.
The side finally scored through winger Marcelo Montoya following a kick from Jarryd Hayne.

Hayne was also behind Fiji’s next try from Vunivalu.

PNG defended their lead well to end the game 26-14.

Fiji’s Akuila Uate was injured earlier in the match.
