Update: 6:03PM THE 6th Pacific Sports Ministers meeting which is currently underway in Nadi today will see sports ministers from the region holding deliberations on areas in sports that needed attention in individual countries for further development.

The two-day meeting with the theme “Strengthening Sports and Sustainable Development in the Pacific” was today opened by the Minister for Youth and Sports, Laisenia Tuitubou.

Mr Tuitubou highlighted it was an opportunity for leaders to share their countrie’s best practices to further advance sporting activities with their Pacific neighbors.

“It becomes imperative that we share our concerns, best practices and learning experiences so that we can assist one another to propel sports in our countries,” he said.

“We are to show the world that Pacific Island countries are sport loving people and are equally capable of presenting athletes that can compete with the rest of the world.”

Discussions from the meeting will be presented at the 9th Commonwealth Sports Ministers Meeting in Gold Coast, Australia in April.
