Overseas counsel for Rabuka

SITIVENI Rabuka’s lawyer Filimoni Vosarogo informed the Suva Magistrates court today that a counsel from Australia has been confirmed to be present during the trial.

Mr Rabuka who is charged with one count of providing false declaration of his assets, income and liabilities appeared before Magistrate Jioji Boseiwaqa for mention this morning.

He is being charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC).

Mr Vosarogo said that the counsel is Mr Ian Lloyd QC who will be accompanied by Mr Devanesh Sharma, Miss Lynda Tabuya and himself.

He also informed the court that Mr Lloyd is only available from October 15 to 19 for trial.

It is alleged that on December 29 last year, Mr Rabuka provided a false declaration of assets and liabilities to the Supervisor of Elections by failing to provide information, namely the tax liability with Fiji Revenue and Customs Service in the amount of $316,956.20, the investment and interest income with said Raghwan Construction Ltd in the amount of $120,000 contrary to the Political Parties Act.

The case has been adjourned to August 20, for mention.
