Ovalau gears up for 7s tourney

THE Ovalau rugby 7s officials are anticipating entertaining rugby matches in the next two days at Nasau Park.

With top teams such as Yasawa Stingers, Red Rock, Yamacia, the two shadow Fiji 7s team and defending champions participating at the event, tournament official Seresio Druguta said they expected rugby at its best on the island.

Wardens have the services of playmakers in Sevuloni Rakula and former Fiji 7s player Kelepi Namoua.

“Everyone is looking forward to it,” he said.

“The two Fiji 7s team are coming so the hype is there for people here in Ovalau to come watch rugby at its best.

“And with top clubs like Wardens, Red Rock, Yasawa Stingers and Yamacia also competing, I believe this is going to be a thriller in Ovalau.”

He said the Ovalau Rugby Union who was the main organiser of the event thanked the Fiji Rugby Union for allowing the two Fiji 7s team to compete at the tournament.

“Not often we get our national teams to come to the island, so to have the Fiji 7s team here is a huge boost to us and we’re so thankful to FRU for helping out.”

The tournament kicks off today in Levuka.

Meanwhile, Vodafone Flying Fijians head coach John McKee is also travelling to Ovalau to watch the tournament.
