THE South Pacific Tourist Organisation (SPTO) has found that many breadwinners attend and appreciate their programs.
“Only last week a tourism operator in the remote Yasawa Islands pleaded with government to think of the small medium enterprise operators who contribute to their local economies,” SPTO CEO Ilisoni Vuidreketi said.
Mr Vuidreketi said Jeremaia Sovatabua, owner of Botaira Resort, made the plea last week — when the Western Division faced a severe drought those tourist operators continued to open for business.
“I ask whoever is elected to please look after us small and medium enterprise operators, most of who are local iTaukei operators,” Mr Sovatabua said.
“When the tourists come to Fiji, they spend their money on the holiday.
“This helps me pay my 25 staff members and maintain the upkeep of our humble operation.”
