A PARTICIPANT at the 2018/2019 National Budget consultation informed the Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum on Saturday that Government’s open merit recruitment and selection (OMRS) system was not applicable to all professions in Fiji.
The participant, who preferred to remain anonymous, claimed it was hard to find jobs because the workforce was not expanding.
“For the medical profession, the open merit system of recruitment does not really work or it is very hard because everyone is qualified with the same degree, everyone has the same qualification and everyone is trained to do the same thing,” he said.
“The more the experience and open merit works and you get a job, but for us everyone does the same thing so everyone knows the same thing and has the same skill so we can’t really have the open merit system work in the medical field.”
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said Government was looking into this area and more job positions would be created in various work entities.
