Official Receiver issues highlighted

Solicitor-General and permanent secretary for Justice Sharvada Sharma told the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on the 2016 Auditor-General’s (OAG) Report.

He said there were no issues with respect to the Ministry of Justice’s other offices except for the Official Receiver’s Office.

“I believe that the matters raised by the OAG are not as substantial as in our last accounting cycle,” Mr Sharma said.

He said the main aspect was their audit was qualified because the trust fund balances reflected in the FMIS and the listing of beneficiaries of the trust account in the Official Receivers Office could not be substantiated.

“The ministry has substantially improved its record keeping in the Official Receivers accounts and the bankruptcy transfer and receipts and payment vouchers are in fact posted. The office has maintained a list of all the debtors and creditors in its database,” he said.

Mr Sharma said they were grateful to Parliament for allocating funding which enabled them to set up a new system.
