Update: 4:21PM LAST week Thursday, US President Barack Obama made a landmark decision, when he announced that he will create essentially the world’s largest ocean reserve, or marine protected area.
The decision he made was to expand the Pacific Remote Islands National Marine Monument by six times its current size from 87,000 square miles to more than 490,000.
This is expected to result in an increase in healthier seas in the areas this covers, healthy fish species numbers and in sea bird numbers.
