THE need for local nurses to be marketable overseas was one of the remittances discussed at the Fiji Nursing Association’s (FNA) 61st annual general meeting (AGM) yesterday. The suggestion was raised by Ravneel Chand, a nurse from the association’s Siga- toka branch, while addressing the members present during the AGM at the Novotel Suva Lami Bay convention centre in Lami yesterday.

Mr Chand said there was only one monopoly for employment of nurses in the country which was the Ministry of Health and Medical Services.

“Currently, we can only negotiate with our employer for better pay or other benefits. Since there is only one major market avail- able for nurses being employed which is the Ministry of Health, we need to be on the winning side so our employer can improve our employment conditions or they will lose skilful nurses,” Mr Chand said.
