THE Macuata Under 11 rugby team defeated the boys of the Garden Island yesterday 7-0 in the opening match of the Vodafone Northern Kaji Rugby festival held at Subrail Park.

The tournament that has brought together 1246 rugby players from around the Northern Division has also attracted a huge crowd of parents and supporters.

Vodafone northern accounts manager Savnish Kumar told the young ruggers that there were untapped rugby talents on Vanua Levu.

In opening the event, he encouraged the players to play their hearts out because one day, they could also wear the national white jersey.

“Our sponsorship is the real commitment to support grassroots development of rugby from primary school level,” Kumar said.
