FARMER’s within the Labasa Cane Producers Association are expected to benefit from the $574,603.38 transport subsidy from last year’s cane crush.

Officiating at the cheque handover yesterday, Ministry of Sugar’s permanent secretary Yogesh Karan said Government intended to make the indusutry better.

“This is why we have been introduocing incentives as this to support farmers,” Mr Karan said.

He said even though they had seen a decrease in sugar production in 2016, it was encouraging to see productivity increase steadily since then.

Mr Karan was accompanied by the Fiji Sugar Corporation’s chief operations officer Navin Chandra.
