MARIST Brothers High School received a big boost from the government of Guangdong, China, as the ceremony of the completion of the new sports field was held today at the school hall in Flagstaff, Suva.
The revamped sports field consists of a 100 metre running track and an artificial playing field.
In addition to the ground upgrade, the school was also presented with school equipment valued at more than $100,000.
School principal Timaima Sew said the development of the school ground would give a boost to the athletes and rugby players of the school.
“This will indeed boost the morale of the athletes and sporting bodies in the school as we now have a proper running track and this gives them the ability to do well in the future,” Sew said.
Mayor of Guangzhou Wen Guohui thanked the officials and members of the Guangzhou construction company for their hard work in working towards the completion of the project.
“Fiji, a pearl in the South Pacific is the first Pacific island country that established diplomatic relations with China. Guangzhou actively promotes its development as a centre of international exchanges and attaches great importance to its relations in Fiji,” said Guohui.
Guohui said the sports field would be a good platform for the students of the school as part of their training and sporting activities.
