MOHAMMED Rafique has been appointed as new president of the Labasa Cane Producers Association replacing retired Rajendra Prasad.

Mr Rafique said his team has already planned to purchase two more cane harvesters next year for farmers.

“It’s not an easy role as we have more than 4000 cane farmers but we will always try our best to serve their interests,” he said.

His predecessor, Mr Prasad, who has been with the association for about 10 years and with the sugar industry for 20 years retired this week.

He described his  career as a rewarding and challenging one.
