A NEW guidebook targeted at developing the capacity of solid waste management practitioners in Pacific Island countries and territories was launched yesterday, further aimed at promoting Pacific to Pacific cooperation.

The book titled – Practical guide to Solid Waste Management in Pacific Island Countries and Territories – was launched during the second day of the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) Clean Pacific Roundtable at the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat in Suva.

The first edition guidebook is a product of collaboration and the very first book written by 16 officers of various Pacific island countries who have been engaged in solid waste management.

SPREP Waste Management and Pollution Control Programme director Dr Vicki Hill said the launch was about celebrating the accomplishment of the 16 contributors of the book.

“Today is about celebrating the accomplishment of the 18 contributors to this book, as announced earlier, for their hard work and commitment,” she said.

“This is the first time our local waste officials have been given a chance to come together to document their works for future reference purposes.”

She congratulated the authors for their hard work and dedication.
