IT IS vital to advocate on the need for communities to strengthen themselves in focusing on community resilience against disasters.

Pacific Islands Association of Non-governmental Organisations (PIANGO) executive director Emele Duituturaga highlighted this while sharing the key findings from the report “Tracking Progress on Localisation — Pacific Perspective” during its launch this week.

She said the report was an eye-opener for evidence-based advocacy in the Pacific.

“We are Pacific Islanders, we are experts in our own development, and we can tell our story. Communities need to be supported in the planning. Communities need to be supported to be able to be resilient against disaster,” Ms Duituturaga said.
