FIJI needs a national occupational health and safety culture says Minister for Employment Jone Usamate.

Mr Usamate made this statement while officiating at the 2018 National Conference on Occupational Health and Safety at the Pearl Resort, Pacific Harbour today.

He said we need a culture where we all take action to maintain and develop OHS.

“We need a culture in which the right to a safe and healthy working environment is respected at all levels and at all times. A culture which has a system of defined rights, responsibilities and duties, that are not just there but carried out extensively.

Mr Usamate said Fiji also needed a culture where the highest priority is accorded to the principle of prevention and a culture of prevention requires special attention to be given to hazardous sectors and vulnerable worker
