Update: 3:58PM IN this day and age of emergency operation and communication technology, versatility is important for any robust operation.
Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development, Disaster Management and Meteorological Services permanent secretary Meleti Bainimarama made this comment at the handover of a Mobile Emergency Operation Centre (MEOC) in Suva this afternoon.
The MEOC is a Nissan NP300 valued at $59,000 and was donated to the National Disaster Management Office by the European Union through the Building Safety and Resilience in the Pacific (BSRP) project, implemented by the Pacific Community (SPC).
Mr Bainimarama said the vehicle would be deployed to any location to support the need to have eyes on the ground and to relay vital information in real time.
“This would mean that we can have the NDMO operating at a strategic level to support any disaster operation at both divisional and district levels,” he said.
“This vehicle will be our flagship when it comes to conducting any awareness such as the conduct of tsunami drills or community awareness exercise in the four divisions.”
