Navy, Police to defend crowns

NAVY and Police White will be given a good run for their money when they defend the Escott Shield and the Koroturaga Shield respectively in the Suva competition challenge games this afternoon.

Escott Shield champion Navy is on fire after snatching the Shield from last year’s champion Police in the first round and successfully defended it against Nabua last weekend.

Laced with big names such as Suva’s flyhalf Jo Tikoduadua and livewire hooker Vesi Rarawa, the sailors are expected to be at the top of their game against the developing Marist outfit.

Police White on the other hand will fight hard to successfully defend the Koroturaga title after their two wins against Namuka-i-Lau and Covenant Red in the last two challenges.

The defending champion will want to continue its fairytale run against the unpredictable Nasinu.

Suva rugby secretary Paula Raqeukai said the two challenge games would be a thriller as all teams wanted to win titles.

“Navy is the team to beat after winning the Shield from Police in the first round and defended it well against Nabua,” he said.

“The side did its homework well during the off season and the players are experience and fit. But Marist on the other hand cannot be underestimated as they have some talented players who had featured in the Deans rugby competition.”

Fans have been urged to come out in huge numbers and watch these top teams battle.

Games will be held at the ANZ grounds starting at 8.30am while the Escott Shield and Koroturaga Shield matches will be played on Bidesi Ground at 2.30pm.
