THE Navua Sanatan football side celebrated its Sanatan World Cup win last Saturday.

The side defeated Nadi 1-nil in the final the previous Sunday at Prince Charles Park.

Sharhad Kumar scored the winner for the side.

A float procession took place in Navua on Saturday to celebrate the win as fans, families, and friends of players and officials came out in numbers.

Players were given cash prizes, medals, certificates and token trophies for the historic win.

Team captain, Vinit Chand said, the win was special for a district which is fighting to gain promotion to Premier level.

“The boy’s trained really hard. It was an emotional win for us. We held our own Sanatan League to select players and trained for more than a month. It wasn’t a surprise for us as we worked really hard for this.” he said.

Tui Namosi, Ratu Suliano Matanitabua was the chief guest at the event on Saturday.

The team dedicated the win the Late Isht Deo who is the former President of the Navua Sanatan Dharam Branch.

Mr Deo passed away earlier this year.
