TUI Nawaka Ratu Asaeli Naevo is prepared to fight for workers and landowners rights in the country. Ratu Asaeli, who was announced as a Unity Fiji proposed candidate for the 2018 General Election, believes there is still room for improvement in policies related to two important issues.

“I feel that there is still work to be done to ensure that our workers have proper working conditions and they get better wages,” he said.

“We have seen a lot of issues come up with workers and their rights over the past few years, especially in the hotel industry. “There are thousands of our people dependent on the hotel industry and it’s important that their working conditions are according to international standards.”

He also expressed his views on lease payments for landowners.

“I want to see landowners benefit from the lease payments that they get,” he said.

“I want to encourage them to use their lease money in sectors that can generate more income for them and their families. They can start their own business and invest their money wisely.”

Ratu Asaeli was named alongside 11 other provisional candidates at an event in Nadi yesterday.

Other candidates include Satish Kumar, Liga Gukisuva, Tomasi Wainiqolo Vakatora, Mereia Rairuku Rasiga, Aliki Turagakula, Ashwen Gibson Blake, Jope Kavoa, Manasa Konataci, Ratu Mosese Turagaduadua, Ratu Jope Naucabalavu Sukanaveita, Isoa Tubuna and Rusiate Tuisovivi.
