Nadroga targets return to top league

THE Sigatoka Electric-sponsored Nadroga football side is aiming to qualify for the top tier competition next season.

Nadroga was relegated to the Vodafone Senior League (VSL) in 2016 after finishing as the runner-up behind eventual winners Tavua.

The Stallions have recorded two losses and a draw in the 2018 VSL competition so far.

Nadroga lost to Navua and Nasinu 2-1 consecutively and then thrashed Northland Tailevu 6-0 last weekend.

This Sunday the side will take on Tailevu Naitasiri at Lawaqa Park.

Gerard Voi and Waisea Tale are the experienced players in the Nadroga outfit.

Nadroga Football Association president Mohammed Ali said they wanted to maintain the momentum after winning the senior title during the Courts Inter District Championship last year.

He said they made a slow start in the league competition with two losses.

“Tailevu Naitasiri is a strong side,” Ali said.

“They have registered a win and a loss. We have been working on our combinations and will map out a plan to counter Tailevu Naitasiri.

“Our aim this year is to get to the top of the points table because the top two teams from Viti Levu and one from Vanua Levu will play off to determine which team moves up to the premier division.”

The Nadroga versus Tailevu Naitasiri match will kick off at 3pm.

In other VSL matches, Nasinu will face Northland Tailevu at the Fiji Football Association Academy in Suva at 1pm followed by Lami taking on Navua at 3pm.
