Nadi sets target

DEFENDING champions Jack’s Nadi is aiming for a hat-trick when the side participates in the Pacific Cup which starts in Auckland, New Zealand today.

Nadi has been a dominant team in the Pacific Cup winning the title on four occasions.

The Jetsetters won it in 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016.

The Nadi Football Association has acquired the services of Australia-based Anand Sami to mentor the boys in the tournament.

Nadi is in Group B with Lautoka, AFFA Savusavu, All Stars Australia, NZFFI Auckland All Stars and Manukau All Stars.

Group A has Rewa, Labasa, NZFFI All Stars, USA All Stars and Northshore All Stars.

The 15-member Nadi team will leave for Auckland this morning and face neighbours Lautoka in an exciting clash in round one.

The side will be joined by last year’s final’s hero Mataiasi Toma, Eliki Ravosai, Christopher Clarke and Andrew Naicker in New Zealand.

Association president Javed Ahmed said switching back to the 60-minute game was one of the obstacles they would have to overcome.

“The Pacific Cup is getting harder every year,” Ahmed said.

“The teams are getting stronger especially the ones from overseas.”
