A POWER disruption experienced in the Central Division last Sunday was caused by a mynah bird that had bridged the high-voltage phase connections of one of the two transformers at the Cunningham Road Substation.
In a media statement, Energy Fiji Ltd (EFL) said the incident had affected the 132,000/33,000 volts transformer, affecting the 132,000 volts extra high-voltage transmission network.
EFL chief executive officer Hasmukh Patel said the 132,000/33,000 Volts transformers at Cunningham Road Substation were part of the 132,000 Volts extra high-voltage transmission network.
This spans the centre of Viti Levu inter-connecting the electricity networks in the Central and Eastern regions to the Monasavu and Nadarivatu Hydro-Electric Schemes.
