THIRTEEN municipal councils have been allocated funds specifically to fix the drainage system within their respective towns and cities.

This came after an agreement was signed between them and the Ministry of Waterways and Environment in Suva today.

A total of $3.8million was allocated under the 2018-2019 national budget for this initiative.

Minister for Waterways and Environment Dr Mahendra Reddy said works would include the construction of new drains, creating riverbank protection and alignment of creeks.

“To ensure the quality of work and proper utilisation of funds, the ministry monitors the progress and works carried out by the municipal council,” Dr Reddys said.
