PLEASE remain vigilant, expect more rain over the next two days with the possibility of more flash floods.
This was the word from Fiji Meteorological Service director Ravindra Kumar.
“People should not let their guard down just because Tropical Cyclone Josie has gone,” he said.
“We are still in the cyclone season and the weather can change rapidly at this time of the year.
“At present we are monitoring a trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain that continues to affect parts of the country and we are also monitoring a system that is drifting down from the North.
“We anticipate rainfall from either Wednesday (today) or Thursday (tomorrow) to start affecting the group.
“We are maintaining the heavy rain warning for Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Lau and Lomaiviti groups and a heavy rain alert remains in force for the rest of Fiji.”
Mr Kumar added the ground was saturated and river levels could also contribute to flash flooding.
“We are urging people in low-lying areas prone to flooding and those living near waterways to remain vigilant.”
