Ministry to formalise settlement before subdividing land

THE Ministry of Lands says it is in the process of formalising a settlement before it is subdivided.
Minister for Lands Faiyaz Koya was responding to concerns raised by residents of Naverea in Savusavu on the poor state of roads in the area.
Naverea resident Harry Prasad said they were tired of raising their concerns regarding the road condition to authorities. The concerns were also brought to the attention of the Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama, during his visit to the area in January this year.
Mr Koya said they were still in the process of formalising the settlement before it is subdivided.
“We do not want to do half-done jobs and we need to complete the formalisation processes before we can subdivide the area,” he said.
Fiji Roads Authority chief executive officer Jonathan Moore said they would only be able to assist members of the public by providing engineering support and advice where possible because of the land issues in the area.
Mr Moore said they were aware of the concerns raised by residents. He said it was a pending issue from the Ministry of Lands and Savusavu Town Council, adding they were the best to answer the public’s queries.
“The area is a non-FRA access as it was sub-divided by the Ministry of Lands without any approved access or a subdivision without any legal approved survey access to the main road (Lesiaceva Rd),” he said.
