STAFF members of the Colonial War Memorial Hospital’s Oncology Unit received early Christmas gifts from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism on Tuesday.
Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism Faiyaz Koya and the ministry’s permanent secretary, Shaheen Ali, handed over food items and other necessities such as blankets.
Mr Koya said this was an initiative undertaken by the ministry’s staff members and they liaised with the hospital to determine what the needs were.
“It is Christmas, spirit of giving. My staff have been extremely good about this. I think it is wonderful the ministry is involved in these things and the staff members give back to the needy,” he said.
CWM Hospital’s medical superintendent, Dr Jemesa Tudravu, was appreciative of the initiative undertaken by the ministry.
“We are fortunate that the Ministry of Tourism has come and we appreciate the effort they have put in. We acknowledge the efforts of the minister and the PS,” he said.
