Ministry failed to seek advise

THE Fiji College of General Practitioners (FCGP) claims the Health Ministry had failed to seek proper advice from relevant health agencies on the meningococcal disease outbreak.

FCGP president Dr John Fatiaki claimed that following the outbreak this year, the ministry had not sought opinions of the FCGP or the Fiji Medical Association.

“For us as doctors who treat patients all the time, we do have an interest in how we spend money that we allocate for treating people,” he said.

Dr Fatiaki confirmed that private doctors have had people presenting themselves to their clinics with Men-C suspected cases.
