THE Minister for Youth and Sport, Laisenia Tuitubou has congratulated the Ratu Kadavulevu School under-18 team for becoming the first Fijian school to win the Sanix World Youth Championship in Fukuoka, Japan. The Lodoni, Tailevu-based team defeated Hasting Boys High School from New Zealand 35-5 last weekend. Tuitubou said the school has made Fiji proud.

“This has been made possible after the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between Fiji and the Saga Prefecture last year,” Tuitubou said.

“I thank the hosts for having the RKS under-18 team and for sharing with them the essential elements of Japanese culture. “This provides a platform, through sport, for us to support ongoing educational opportunities and to increase co-operation and understanding from a young age.”

The Nacanieli Saumi-coached side defeated St Augustine of Australia 24-21 in the semi-final. RKS, last year, won all the grades in last year’s Coca- Cola Zero Deans Trophy competition and this year’s Coca-Cola Games boys division title after 21 years.

Meanwhile, the team was hosted by the school’s former old scholars in Nadi upon their return yesterday.
