NATABUA High School Year 10 student Hansel McCaig wants to better his personal times at the Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championship in Suva next week.

Hansel is a member of the Great White Sharks Swimming Club. He represented Fiji at the Oceania Swimming Championship in Papua New Guinea in June and reached the finals.

“I have won many times in the national championships,” he said.

“I specialise in the 50 metres breaststroke and the 50 metres freestyle. I will be participating in the Junior Pan Pacific Championship for the first time. “The championship will be tough. There will be many top swimmers from around the world and some of them will become future Olympic Games representatives.”

Hansel wants to represent the nation at the 2019 Oceania Championship in Apia, Samoa.

“I was part of the national team that participated at the recent Oceania championship and I performed well. “I reached two finals and recorded good times. I hope to better my personal best at the championship. My personal best are 28 seconds in the 50 metre backstroke and 25 seconds in the 50 freestyle. “Participating in the championship will be a good exposure for us. My aim is to qualify for the semi-finals. I am also training for next year’s Pacific Games.”
