FORMER Fiji junior bowling rep Lema Matailevu combined well with his 1wood team to defeat his grandfather and former national rep Panipasa Matailevu’s Fort 14 team 15-13 in the General Machinery Lautoka business house bowling competition at the Lautoka Bowling club on Thursday night.
The young Matailevu was instrumental for his team to oust their high flying opponents that enabled his team to secure a berth in the quarter-final stage.
1wood skipper Ili Seru said the side was happy with the team’s effort against the Fort 14 side.
“The game was tough but we managed to combine well to beat the experienced Fort 14 outfit which has the services of two former reps,” she said.
“We are happy to maintain our unbeaten run and we will do the best in our last game against Westpac.”
Fort 14 skip Panipasa Matailevu admitted his side lost to a better team.
He said he was overwhelmed with the skills displayed by some new players during the competition.
“We will try to make a comeback in the second round and hopefully come out with a win,” said Matailevu.
“I am proud to introduce new set bowlers who have taken up the sport for the first time and hopefully in the next business house meet these newcomers will definitely lift their game.”
Tournament secretary Jo Sarai said Williams and Gosslings, General Machinery and Team FSC Finance have joined 1wood for places in the knock-out stages.
