The death of the 50-year-old man in the Natadola Rd accident last week is indeed sad.
However, I am still wondering why the authorities have not yet openly asked this question: why were there 20 people in that van? Now, I cannot speculate on how many that van was approved to carry (if approved at all), but I do know that none of those vans are designed or approved to carry 20 people, regardless of the total number of adults and total children.
Curbing road deaths will become possible only when the right questions are asked. Things like, whose cattle, speed, number of passengers, etc. come to mind.
Some will say the van would have been hit anyway, regardless of its load. Yes, but the consequences would be less severe if laws are adhered to, I mean, for the future.
