A 64-YEAR-OLD man convicted of one count of rape has been sentenced to 10 years and 11 months imprisonment by the Labasa High Court.
The court heard that the man raped his nine-year-old neighbour who called him grandfather sometime in August 2015 in Dogotuki.
Judge Justice Chamath Morais while passing sentencing told the man that the child had trusted him by calling him grandfather and instead he lured her into his room and raped her.
He added that by the man’s shameful act, he had robbed the innocence of a nine-year-old child.
A non-parole period of eight years and 11 months has been set for the man.
