Man gets life sentence for murdering de-facto partner

HIGH Court judge Justice Vincent Perera today handed a mandatory life sentence to a man who murdered his de-facto partner out of “anger” and “jealousy”.
While passing sentence, Justice Perera told the man – Imshad Ali – that the murder was not premeditated.
Ali murdered his 34-year-old de-facto partner at their home in Howell Rd, Suva in 2009.
Ali will need to first serve a minimum of 18 years before he can apply for presidential pardon.
