Man denies raping mother

A 45-YEAR-old man who has two separate files of rape charges against him has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

In the first file, he is charged with two counts of rape.

It is alleged that he raped his 63-year-old mother between 2016 and 2017 in a maritime island.

In the second file, the accused is charged with two counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault.

It is alleged that he raped and sexually assaulted his nine-year-old grandniece between 2017 and 2018 in the same maritime island.

State lawyer Swastika Sharma has objected to bail on the grounds that the victims were related to the accused and that there were no suitable sureties.

High Court judge Justice Daniel Goundar has adjourned the case to September 21 for bail ruling.
