ABOUT 500 students of three schools in a rural area of Macuata will no longer worry about the daily dusty walk to school.

Last week, workers of Fulton Higan Hiways upgraded and sealed the feeder road that led to Maramarua District School, Dreketi Primary School and Dreketi Secondary School.

It is understood that 14 villages would also benefit from this project and the general community that travelled along the Nabouwalu Dreketi Highway.

In thanking Government and the road contractors, Dreketi resident Mesake Tabuaciri said the road upgrade was a much needed project.

“The Nabouwalu jetty is a part of the main shipping route between Natovi and Nabouwalu and Patterson Shipping buses that transfer passengers stop at the Dreketi market for food before they continue to Labasa or Savusavu,” he said.

“The road used to be narrow and dusty but now it is safe and dust free.”

Mr Tabuaciri, a pastor said the sealed road would work out well for market vendors who sold food by the roadside.

“The location had a special significance for people selling food to travelers,” he said
