DESCENDANTS of the girmitiya yesterday took home the body of the Vunisalevu na Turaga na Tui Noco, Ratu Isoa Damudamu.

Known as a visionary leader to the girmitiya community, Ratu Isoa had traditionally adopted them as children of Noco, and gave them the name Luvedra na Ratu.

In a moving ceremony held at the Tui Noco’s village in Nabudrau, Noco in Rewa, the people of Noco witnessed history unfold as descendants of the girmitiya were pallbearers, bringing home their chief.

A memorial service was held at Nabudrau Village Methodist Church in Rewa earlier today.
