THE closing ceremony of the Pacific Games was spectacular and simple. Tonga laid the challenge for a bigger and better 2019 PG.

The host country put up a magnificent effort both in organisation and in winning the overall medal tally.

Fiji’s efforts in the PG must be commended, based on the level of preparation, monetary motivation and availability of resources.

Joe Rodan had promised 80 gold medals but we fell short. However, there are valuable lessons for the upcoming PG.

More efforts need to be devoted to water sports, table tennis, soccer, volleyball, cricket and athletics.

PNG swarmed, dominated and outclassed all others in the track events, something that Fiji was good at.

Apart from Banuve and the women’s gold medal winning team, our efforts on the track is worth thinking about.

Our efforts in team sports brought us gold medals.

Fiji did fairly well in rugby, hockey, karate, bowling and para-table tennis.

Elite athletes must be identified now and given proper training for better results in Tonga.

The spiritual, physical and mental preparation need stepping up.

The Fiji Pearls team after defending their gold medal, are on their way to playing the Silver Ferns.

This is a moment the team will cherish as an ideal build-up to the World Netball Championship.

Congratulations to the players and team management for taking the bold step.

At the end of the day whatever sport one participates in, the best part is that sports unite.

Sports are an integral part in national unity.

The Flying Fijians overturned the tables on the Ikale Tahi by recording a hard earned win. The team leaves our shores to play in the PNC.

All the best to McKee and his gladiators in the quest for victory in the PNC.

Dreketi secured their spot in the Galaxy Premier League. It’s back to the drawing board for Nasinu.

The Football Youth League, Skipper Cup and secondary schools rugby finals produced some exciting results.
