Lautoka cements spot on top of premier league standing

THE Lautoka football side has cemented its spot at the top of the Vodafone Premier League standings and it will take a brave man to bet against them to win this year’s title.

The sugar city side has played nine matches so far and lead with 21 points, five points ahead of Suva (16) which has played 10 matches.

The Blues have not lost a match in the competition so far and need to win three out of the remaining five matches to secure back to back national league titles for the first time since its inception in 1977.

In other matches yesterday, Lautoka had to come from a 3-2 deficit to beat Nadi 3-2, while Rewa beat Suva 2-nil.

In another match over the weekend, Ba and Tavua played to a 3-all draw.

Meanwhile, the Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants tournament kicks off at Churchill Park in Lautoka on Friday, July 20, with Rewa playing Suva in the opening match at 1.30pm.

In other matches on day one, Nadi battles Dreketi at 3.30pm, Lautoka takes on Tavua at 6pm, while Ba battles Labasa at 8pm.

Rewa is the defending champion of the BOG.
