FIFTY residents from Nadi, Ba and Sigatoka had their land leases renewed by the Department of Lands. While announcing the successful applications in Nadi last Friday, Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources Faiyaz Koya said the long wait for the land lease renewals was finally over.
“We will also be issuing new registered and renewed leases to 50 recipients and this includes 22 residential and 22 agricultural leases and six civil and commercial leases. Out of these 50 leases, 10 recipients have been identified and confirmed from Sigatoka, 18 from Lautoka and 22 from Nadi. “I know that they have waited for this day to arrive and I am pleased to say that their wait is all over.”
He said each lease had a 99-year term.
“This is also an indication of government’s commitment to your wellbeing and we will continue to ensure that we deliver services to the best of our ability to allow all ordinary Fijians access to basic and essential amenities and infrastructure. “All of this and more is encompassed in the lease documents they have received.”
Mr Koya also handed out an additional 50 leases to residents from Tavua and Ba on May 23.
One of the recipients, Sanjay Kumar of Varoko, Ba, said the new document which he had waited two years for, would help him take care of his children. He said he was the lone financial supporter for his two children who were in tertiary institutions.
