LABASA Town came to a stand still today as the Vodafone Festival of the Friendly North float procession proceeded into the town this afternoon marking the beginning of the week-long carnival.

A decorated truck bearing a tree and giant fruit figurines in line with the carnival’s theme ‘Our health, our future’ bore the eight Queen and four King contestants.

Children crowded near the float as contestants showered them with sweets and goodies.

People braved the hot Labasa sun to greet the contestants who waved from their float.

The carnival will be officially opened this evening.
