Labasa gears up for champions clash

THE Labasa football side will be out to topple Lautoka and secure the first title of the new season when the two clash in the 2018 Pillays Garment Champion vs Champion series next month.

Babasiga Lions will host the first leg at 1pm on January 6 at Subaril Park, while defending champion Lautoka, will host the final leg at 7pm on January 12 at Churchill Park.

The above clash will mark the start of the 2018 Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) season.

Labasa Football Association (Labasa FA) president Rayaz Khan believes the clash will be an uphill battle and one which he expects his side to come out on top.

“It is going to be a very tough match but our players are capable on any given day and Lautoka is coming in for a big surprise,” Khan said.

“Lautoka has some Fiji team players in their squad which will make a difference and like us they will also come well prepared. It should be an interesting match.”

In the past season, Lautoka defeated Ba to clinch the CvC title. The Blues outfit also won the Vodafone Premier League and Courts Inter District Championship.

With the re-introduction of the foreign player policy by Fiji FA, Khan says his association will, for now, heavily rely on their local talent to deliver.

“It is going to be a tough season but we will prepare well. Despite the foreign player rule, we want to stick with the local players and see where we go from here,” Khan said.

Meanwhile, Fiji FA competitions manager Amitesh Pal has confirmed the tickets are selling at $5 for adults and $2 for children under the age of 12 for the CvC clash.
