YOUNG Vetaia Koro is looking forward to compete against star secondary schools athletes in the upcoming Coca-Cola Games.

The Nilson High School student set a record in the junior boys discus event during the Tavua-Ra-Nadarivatu-Vatukoula athletics zone at Garvey Park, Tavua, yesterday.

Koro threw the discus 35.95m breaking the old record of 33.20m.

He was also placed first in last year’s zone competition, but failed to participate at the annual Coca-Cola Games.

“I have trained hard and I will do my best to compete against other athletes from other schools,” said Koro.

“I didn’t train well last year but this year I aim to do well in the Fiji Finals.”

He said his achievement yesterday inspired him to continue working hard and to stamp his mark at the games.

“I came here to win, but I didn’t expect to set a new record. I believe it was the competition from other participants that enabled me to give my best.”
