Kiribati president pays courtesy visit to Fijian head of State

THE President of the Republic of Kiribati, Te Beretitenti Taneti Maamau, paid a courtesy visit to Fijian President Jioji Konrote at Borron House in Suva this week.

Mr Konrote acknowledged the support of the Government and the people of Kiribati on the issue of climate change that is affecting the Pacific.

He also reiterated Fiji’s COP23 presidency saying this was not for Fiji alone but for the Pacific.

Mr Maamau commended the Fijian Government for their lead role in advocating on climate change at the international stage.

“We are proud of Fiji taking on the presidency of COP23 and the outcome of the talanoa session, this is good opportunity for people to hear our stories of climate change,” he said.

“We need to further promote the talanoa dialogue and we appreciate as small region in the Pacific, our voices and stories of the effects of climate change are realised at international level.”
