FIJI Swimming’s Lets Swim program held a swimming lesson for students of Holy Trinity Primary School and Veiuto Primary School to mark the 2018 International World Water Day at the Olympic Pool in Suva yesterday.

Lets Swim program co-ordinator Trisa Cheer-Dunn said it was a successful program.

“Lets Swim, under Fiji Swimming, have worked with the two schools,” Cheer-Dunn said.

“The program teaches students in Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 the basics of swimming, and water safety.

“We teach them how to stay afloat properly on the water and kick properly while swimming.

“Instructors also prepare some questions for the students.

“We are lucky to have clean water and sanitation. There are millions of children around the world who lack clean water and sanitation.”

Cheer-Dunn said it was important for students to learn to swim since Fiji was surrounded by water.

The program, which has been running since last year, has trained students and teachers in 30 schools, she said.
