Kaitani jailed for marijuana cultivation

A 27-YEAR-old farmer of Kadavu was sentenced to 14 years and two months imprisonment for cultivating marijuana.

Arisi Kaitani was convicted by high court judge Justice Vincent Perera of one count of unlawful cultivation of illicit drugs.

On September 15, 2016, a team of Police officers raided Kaitani’s farm at his village in Kadavu, where Police found him with another uprooting marijuana plants.

During the raid, Police uprooted a total of 820 marijuana plants.

Kaitani had been remanded for a period of one year and 10 months, the time spent in custody was deducted from his head sentence, which lives him with 14 years and two months.

He has a non-parole period of 10 years and two months.
