JOHN Wesley Primary School dominated the Suva Kaji Rugby finals with school winning the U13 and U14 grades of the cup final at St Marcellin Primary School yesterday.
JWPS edged Veiuto Primary School 6-5 in the U13 grade and managed to secure a try and a penalty in the U14 grade defeat Marist Brothers Primary School 10-0.
MBPS thumped Gospel Primary School in the U12 grade 42-0 and Suva Methodist Primary School edging MBPS12-7 in the U11 division.
Suva Kaji Rugby tournament co-ordinator Taniela Naiteqe said while the schools produced good results the teams still had to work on their performance.
“Even though we have finished we have found that the performance of the payers is not altogether. It seemed that some teams were not prepared.”
Naiteqe said the final served as the platform with which they were to gauge their performance in the nationals meet later in the year and that it did not look promising.
“At this stage we can say that we are not doing well and we don’t know how we will fare when we come to the national finals,” he said.
This is year marked the first time they introduced the Shield and Bowls competitions allowing more competition among the schools.
The Suva Kaji Rugby awards night will be held next Monday at 6pm at the Marist Brothers Primary School where they will also announce the names of players who have made the Suva squad.
