Justice Temo overturns assessors’ opinions in rape trial

HIGH court judge Justice Salesi Temo today overturned the not guilty opinion of three assessors in a case where four men are accused of raping two complainants.

Justice Temo said he accepted the Prosecution’s evidence that all four men forced themselves onto the two complainants and convicted them accordingly.

The four men raped the two complainants in an isolated dairy farm located in Tailevu between October 9-10, 2016.

Justice Temo said he rejected the not guilty opinion of the three assessors of the trial.

The four men are charged with four counts of rape and the fourth accused is charged with an additional count of assault with intent to commit rape.

They will be sentenced on Friday, July 20.
