SILIKA Jennifer shed tears of joy as she thanked God for blessing her with the Queen’s crown of the Digicel Duavata Northern Crime Prevention Carnival in Labasa.

The 19-year-old University of the South Pacific student believes that without God, she would not have achieved what she did.

She dedicated the crown to all participating contestants of the week-long carnival, assuring them they were all winners.

When it comes to fighting crime, Ms Jennifer said everyone was responsible.

The police, she said, could not fight crime alone, but needed the support of the communities and such a carnival provided a good platform to promote important messages of this fight.

She thanked her parents and families for the great support throughout the week.

Ms Jennifer was awarded $500 and a return trip to Australia as her prize.

Carnival committee chairman Satish Kumar thanked the communities for their continuous support towards the carnival over the years, saying it had been an effective contributor towards the carnival’s success.
